The Battle Ends
When the djinn awoke, the tree branch had grown tightly around him, imprisoning him. He could not wiggle or move in any direction and could only listen.
Brigit assured him that when the Wondersmith and her son returned, they would set him free. She also promised to give him a golden earring as long as his ear. He knew that once he was set free he could grow a very long ear. In his present state, he decided to settle contentedly into his new home, dozing in the afternoon sun.
When the Djinn did not return to the Underworld, Balor became very angry and screamed at his court. He announced that he would send a contingent of his strongest and smartest men, led by his eldest son, to retrieve the tool and the errant Djinn.
The imperial contingent arrived at the Wondersmith’s home by late afternoon. Brigit welcomed her unwary, over-confident proud guests and invited them to rest and eat in a magic room she had prepared for them.
She had prepared toast with ginger jam and a special sleepy-time tea for her weary guests.
They enjoyed her hospitality and dozed off, thus allowing her to magically lock the door and the windows.
When they did not return the King’s anger boiled over, and he dislodged the covering of his death-ray eye. The eye created a blazing inferno that destroyed the great hall and those who served him. When the fires ebbed, a few remaining loyal handlers were afraid to approach him. He asked them to go behind him and replace the cover on his dreaded eye.
Sitting back on his throne, he began to realize that if he wanted his followers and his court, including his eldest son, back, he would have to let the Wordsmith and Ronan go free. Reluctantly, he called for his dragons to carry the Wondersmith and his son home.
