The Battle Begins
Having the power to transmit his thoughts to his wife, The Wondersmith sat facing the western sky, preparing to communicate with her through his magic powers.
His wife, facing east, received his thoughts. She agreed silently to his strategy. She had already anticipated this moment from the day her son told her about the invitation to the Underworld. But now she was comforted, knowing her husband was in command of the situation.
She was ready to do battle with the forces of the Underworld.
Suddenly, she felt and heard a ferocious wind envelop the house. Then she heard the voice of the Djinn, the crafty shape-shifter, demanding that she surrender the Wondersmith’s tool.
Anticipating danger, she focused herself into a shaft of diamond light. When a cyclone flew at her with a violent gale, she remained steady and unmoved.
The enraged demon then turned into a blistering fire-storm.
Brigit turned into an ocean wave and put out the fire.
The damp and perplexed Djinn knew he had to change tactics in order to win. He proposed a contest to determine who would have the tool.
Brigit soothed him as she would an angry child, encouraging him to rest first on a nearby tree branch. The discouraged Djinn settled into the tree near the kitchen window, ready to discuss a contest to see who would be in control. The Djinn arrogantly pointed out that he was capable of destroying everything in sight.
Brigit countered with the idea that destruction was easy, but that growth was stronger. As he thought about her words, she began to sing a soft lullaby. Sleepy now, he did not notice the tree branch grow quickly around him.
